4-Day Trip through the Blue Ridge Mountains (March 2012)
Ann was about to quit one job and start another one, so we planned a long weekend trip from DC to the Blue Ridge Mountains and back. Our original plan was to ride the Tail of the Dragon, but as you'll see, the rain and snow really slowed us down and made us rethink our original plans. Even though we didn't make it all the way to the Tail of the Dragon, we still had a great getaway, and we can't wait to return! (But during the summertime...)
Here are some pictures from the central Virginia area near Charlottesville and Waynesboro. This is where Skyline Drive ends and the Blue Ridge Parkway begins.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is full of gorgeous lakes and streams.
Rain + fog + freezing cold wind = vacation???
Welcome to North Carolina! Here's the Virginia/North Carolina border:
Dry (for now), but it was still in the low 40s. Ann was too cold to take off her full-face helmet for the pictures, and Alex was too cold to take off his face mask.
The weather report called for snow but we honestly didn't stop to think about it. Snow? In March? Sure, we were in the mountains, but it was in the 60s in DC! At this point, we had no choice but to hang out in the hotel in Boone, NC for the day.
The next day, the sun returned!
After freezing our tails off for a few days, we were ready to stop for a photo shoot and relax for a while.
